MovingWaldo is an online moving services marketplace that makes the process easier and more secure. Our platform offers real-time estimates and easy online booking from trusted moving companies in your area. Our easy to use service enables you to compare multiple estimates from verified professional movers, all based on the same pricing algorithm for a seamless and accurate comparison. It’s a fast and convenient way to review tailored moving estimates and select the best option for your needs. 

MovingWaldo has taken on the lengthy and complex task of vetting movers, so you don’t have to worry about moving scams. Every moving company on our platform has been carefully reviewed to meet our strict criteria and has provided the necessary documentation to confirm their legitimacy and professionalism. We did all the research to ensure you can move with confidence.

With a wide range of services available, including local and long-distance moves, storage solutions, and packing services, finding a mover that meets your needs is easier than ever.

While booking your move online is quick and easy, our team of booking agents is always available to assist you with any questions or concerns, before, during, and after your move.

1. Local moves

Local moves can be easily booked through our online platform in just a few minutes. This applies to moves where the distance between addresses is 500 km or less.

How they work

  • Fill out our quick online form with your moving details (less than 3 minutes).
  • Get instant access to multiple moving quotes  from movers near your origin or destination, calculating estimates based on the information you provide.
  • You’ll see a full breakdown of costs, including:
    • Hourly rates.
    • Travel and truck fees.
    • Any applicable charges for your move based on the details provided (e.g. stair fees, heavy item fees, etc.).
  • You select your favorite moving company and place a small deposit to secure your moving date. Your move is then quickly reviewed, confirmed and booked.

Once your request is received, a booking agent will review it to ensure accuracy and contact you if any additional information is required. Our team is also always available to provide assistance. Once reviewed, it is sent off to the selected moving company who generally replies within a few hours, but it can go up to 48.

How our moving estimates are calculated

Our advanced algorithms calculate several factors to ensure accurate estimates, including:

  • Distance between your origin and destination addresses.
  • Estimated loading and unloading times.
  • Travel time for movers from their office to your address and back.
  • Additional fees may apply based on your move, such as:
    • Special item fees.
    • Stair fees.
    • etc.

Daily rates are provided directly by our moving partners and registered in our partner portal. Once we have all the necessary moving details from you, our algorithm instantly compiles and displays tailored estimates from all available movers in your area, based on this information for easy comparison.

2. Long-distance moves

A long-distance move involves different logistics than a local move. In this case, we’re talking about moves where the distance between the origin and destination exceeds 500 km. Depending on your departure and arrival locations, the move can be organized in various ways. Long-distance moves are usually handled by a completely different set of moving companies than local moves. Most long-distance moves are carried out by our van line partners, who operate differently.

How they work

Once you’ve entered your moving details on our platform, you’ll be invited to schedule a call with one of our expert booking agents.

During the virtual consultation, the agent will:

  • Gather all essential information about your move.
  • Conduct a virtual inventory with you to ensure nothing is overlooked.

Pricing and process

Unlike local moves, you cannot receive instant online quotes for long-distance moves.

Our agents will work on your behalf and explore our network of trusted long-distance movers to find the best options for you and present tailored solutions and estimates.

Long-distance moves can vary significantly. For example, a move from Montreal to Toronto differs from one between Halifax and Vancouver. Depending on the specifics of your move, different services may be required.

Types of long-distance moves

Direct service by a local mover:

  • The same company handles the entire process.
  • They load, transport, and unload your belongings.
  • Typically priced by the hour.

Van line service:

  • One crew loads your belongings at origin.
  • Transportation is arranged via a van line (or sometimes by train).
  • Another crew unloads at your destination.
  • Actual cost  is based on the weight of your actual load on moving day.
  • Delivery times can range from one to three weeks or more, depending on the vendor and destination.

Coordination and support

For long-distance moves, smooth coordination between all parties is essential. Our booking agents will:

  • Oversee the process to ensure everything goes smoothly.
  • Answer any questions you may have.

3. International moves

We offer a variety of routes for moves between Canada and the United States. Our network of long-distance van lines includes trusted and experienced companies specializing in these moves.

How they work

For international moves, our agents will work on your behalf and explore our network of trusted international movers to find the best options for you and present tailored solutions and estimates.

Unlike local moves, you cannot receive instant online quotes for international moves.

International moves can vary significantly. For example, a move from Montreal to Toronto differs from one between Toronto and Miami. Depending on the specifics of your move, different services may be required.

Pricing and process

Moving between Canada and the US follows a similar pricing structure and process as long-distance moves within Canada, with prices based on the shipment’s weight. Additionally, we offer competitive rates for Canada-US moves, ensuring cost effectiveness without compromising on quality.

We are proud to say that our delivery windows are designed to ensure your belongings aren’t in transit for long periods, offering you a timely and efficient move.

Additional considerations

Contrary to popular belief, there are no extra fees for crossing the border itself. The primary difference lies in the paperwork required for Canada-US shipments. For customs clearance, the customer will need to provide the following:

  • A copy of their visa
  • A photo of their passport
  • A completed 3299 form for declaration purposes

These documents are necessary for customs processing, but they don’t add any additional fees to the cost of the move.

4. Piano and heavy item moves

Moving large and heavy items, such as pianos, requires specialized care. Our experienced movers are equipped to handle these challenges. Our moving experts will ensure your heavy items are safely relocated.

If you need to move special items during your move, such as a piano, a safe, or sports equipment, among others, our platform is the perfect place to start your search. Since not all movers offer these services, our algorithm automatically filters movers who can accommodate your request, making it quick and easy to find the right match.

How they work

  • While filling out our moving form, you’ll be asked to provide details about any special items you need to move. Simply select the ones that apply.
  • Our platform will take this into account and display only movers who offer this type of service.
  • The quotes will include any applicable fees. Some movers charge extra for certain items, while others do not. This allows you to compare accurate pricing upfront, ensuring there are no hidden fees later on.

5. Packing services

Packing can be time-consuming and challenging. To simplify your move, all of our movers offer professional packing services, ensuring your belongings are securely and efficiently packed.

However, please note that our instant online quote does not include packing services. Since packing needs can vary, an agent will need to review your inventory to provide an accurate estimate. This allows us to determine both the time required and the necessary packing materials.

6. Packing material

If you need packing material for your move, our movers can absolutely bring what you need on moving day. However, please note that packing materials are not included in our instant quote and come at an additional cost.

How it works

  • While filling out our moving form, you can leave a comment specifying any packing materials you may need.
  • Once we receive your request, an agent will contact you to review the details of your move and discuss your packing material needs.
  • After assessing your material requirements, our booking agent will update your online quote to include the cost of packing materials for your review.
  • If you’re unsure about the exact number of boxes needed, our agent will ensure extra boxes are included. Any unused materials will be returned by the movers, and you will only be charged for what is used.
  • Additionally, all of our movers provide floor runners and blankets to protect large items such as appliances and furniture at no extra cost.

7. Storage services

Some moves require storage between addresses. If that’s the case, we’d be happy to find the best moving and storage options for you. However, since storage services vary depending on your needs, they are not included in our instant online quotes. An agent will need to discuss your situation to determine the best solution.

How they work

  • While filling out our moving form, simply leave a comment indicating that you require storage services.
  • Once we receive your request, an agent will contact you to review the details of your move and discuss your storage options.
  • Based on your needs, we will assess our partners’ availability and provide you with the best solutions.

Many movers either have their own storage facilities or partner with storage companies to accommodate different needs. Pricing will depend on the storage duration and unit size required. The price for the storage will be included in your updated quote for you to review. 

In some cases, if storage is only needed for a very short period, movers may be able to keep your belongings in the truck overnight at an additional cost. This can help reduce handling and save on moving labor costs.

8. Crating services

If you have fragile, large, or valuable items, they may require crating. Crating typically involves a custom-made crate, often constructed from wood, designed specifically for your item. While not all moving companies specialize in this service, we have a selection of trusted movers who do offer crating. Examples of items that may need crating include grand pianos, stone sculptures, and valuable paintings.

While movers take great care in protecting your furniture, crating is sometimes necessary because items can shift during transit. This movement can potentially cause slight damage, which is especially concerning for high-value items. Crating helps ensure these delicate possessions are securely transported and protected.

How they work

  • While filling out our moving form, you can leave a comment specifying any additional services you require, such as packing.
  • Once we receive your request, an agent will contact you to review the details of your move and include packing services, along with any required packing materials.
    • To estimate the time required to pack your belongings and the materiel, our agent will go through an inventory with you and ensure to go through all details. 
  • Our agent will send you the updated quotes for you to compare our partners and prices.
    • Some moving companies offer a different hourly rate for packing (often lower than moving), which will be reflected in your quote if applicable. Your estimate will clearly outline the time allocated for both packing and moving.
  • To ensure a smooth moving day, packing is typically scheduled separately, usually the day before the move, but it all depends on the size and complexity of your move.
