Methodology

Our methodology for ranking the best places to live is based on three key criteria: quality of life, safety, and affordability. Recognizing that the term “best” can be subjective, we have developed a systematic approach to evaluate each location on these parameters.

Firstly, we assess the quality of life, which is measured through feedback from real residents who have either moved to or currently live in the area. We gather this feedback from our database and trusted online forums. The factors we consider include job opportunities, the quality of education and healthcare, the sense of safety, public transportation availability, environmental cleanliness, and the presence of recreational facilities and parks.

Next, we evaluate safety using the most recent Crime Severity Index (CSI) provided by Statistics Canada or its equivalent in other regions. The CSI measures the severity of crimes reported to law enforcement, considering both their frequency and gravity. A baseline of 100 was set in 2006, with scores interpreted as follows:

  • Below 70: Low crime severity
  • 70 to 99: Moderate crime severity
  • 100 to 139: High crime severity
  • 140 and above: Very high crime severity

Finally, we also consider affordability by closely examining housing prices and rental costs. Our analysis focuses on identifying a broad range of housing options, with particular attention to affordable properties. We rely on credible and current sources to ensure our data accurately reflects the true cost of living in each area.
